Big Spaz, Great Book

Yesterday I went to a big city. I define a big city by a city that actually has an Unnamed Huge Labyrinthine Book Conglomerate. In other words, a book store that sells new (not used) books. I was finally able to buy:
1. Bowling for Soup’s latest CD “Hangover You Don’t Deserve.”
2. Lani Diane Rich’s Time Off for Good Behavior
3. Shirley Jump’s The Bride wore Chocolate
4. Photography magazines.

I haven’t read Shirley’s book yet, so I can’t tell you what I think. But I’ve read Lani’s and I must say that my experience with this book was very similar to what Lani relates in her blog at LiteraryChicks.com. For example, we both went to a Unnamed Huge Labyrinthine Book Conglomerate. It was my first Official in Store Sighting of her new book. Her first book. My friend’s book. I became a big spaz (although it was a quiet spaz attack.)

How come there’s a character named Shelley? Geez. Just call me Bones from now on.

OK, back to my story about buying this book. I had to look for it and found it on the shelf under “R” because Lani Schwalbe is going by her maiden name with this one, right? Right. And I must admit I didn’t witness the UHLBCs doing the evil-corporation-sucking-the-will-to-live-out-of-their-employees thing.

This particular UHLBC had three copies. Three copies. And I was a big spaz. I went to Information Desk Guy and I asked if he minded if I sign his stock. No problem. Just like Lani’s experience IDG didn’t ask for proof that I was Lani Diane Rich, er, Lani Schwalbe, er, um, Leah Something….

Anyway, I didn’t have any problems until I actually went to sign the book. So if you happen to be in Grand Rapids Michigan and you buy a copy of Time Off for Good Behavior with an autograph that says Lani Schwwww that’s crossed off and then it says Lidna and that’s scribbled out so you can barely read it and finally says Lani Diane Rich, well, that’s the book I signed.

I even got the IDG guy to put the “autographed copy” somewhere other than over Lani’s name. Although I prefered the little pink square to the little green square that Lani favors.

As for the book itself, I must say that it is fantastic. Definitely top-quality print job. You can open the book all the way flat AND not only does it not crease or break the spine (hate that) it will stay open (pretty much anyway). Very high quality stuff there. The pages are very smooth and clean. All corners are cut crisply. And after being held open for hours as I devour the book, the cover shuts cleanly. Again, no creases on the outer spine (really hate when that happens).

But I still don’t see why Bone’s daughter wasn’t named Lidna or Linda or heck even Lydia. She is so NOT a Shelley! Geez.

I think the IDG souless-guy began to get suspicious though when I tried to sign Shirley’s books too. Thanks for playing.

*DISCLAIMER: This post contains some fictional parts. People purchasing Lani’s book in a Grand Rapids bookstore don’t have to worry about a fraudulent autograph. I swear, I really did sign her name right the first time. And if Lani doesn’t believe me, she can just come on over here and see for herself. ;)

A Good Book

I just finished reading “Maggie By The Book” by Kasey Michaels. I must say it was a great read. This is a sequel to “Maggie Needs an Alibi,” which had a very unique premise in my mind.

It’s about a fiction writer. The latest installment takes place at a writer’s conference for romance writers. Lots of info most of us could relate to and enjoy.

Shelley, you know those radio interviews you do? Those are called “phoners.” At least according to this book. And unpublished writers are never called unpublished or wannabes. “Prepub” is the politically correct phrase of choice.

I can’t wait for the next book in the series, which will be out in August.

Ode to my SF

Did you know that you can get free e-mail addresses from sexmagnet.com? I didn’t know this until this whole SF thing started and I discovered my personal Momwriter SF is a sex magnet. Or rather, her e-mail address ends with sexmagnet. I wonder if idiot@sexmagnet.com is taken?

Anywho…

I have been having so much fun this time around with SFs. I have a great SF and I am a SF to a very great person too – she even wrote me a cheesy poem, because I just had to introduce the fact that all SFs should write cheesy poems. You didn’t know that?

I’ve also discovered my SF reads my blog. Or at least she has since she became my SF. So Hello SF!!! And she sent me roses! A beautiful minibush that I’ll be sure to plant outside (and not kill) when all the dangers of flooding passes. And yummy chocolate truffles. Delish, I’m sure!

So here is yet another cheesy poem, and this one for my entire blogging audience (all 2 of you)….

Oprah Dear
You Bring me Cheer

Last Saturday was so gray
And your card made my day

I learned two things reading your greetings
One: I am not a expert in handwriting
Two: They really do make a card for everything

Who knew Hallmark could chime
Secret pal of mine

OK, so it wasn’t made by Hallmark
But really there’s no need to bark

Which brings me to yesterday
Which was a long dreary workday

I arrived home at sixish
Tired and a bit, shall we say, witch-ish

When what to my wondering eyes did I see
A package on the table just for me

So I just had to say for all to see
I have a great SF and she’s just for me!

End Cheesy Poem

And now everyone knows why I don’t write poetry for a living. ;)

Momwriters Photos

I traveled over 500 miles last weekend to see various Momwriters. Here’s pictures from that whirlwind three-day trip. There should be 15 pictures in all.

Told Ya So!

I told you. It was just a matter of time. I knew it was going to happen. I tried all day yesterday. I offered lots of updates as I went through the process of creating my very own blog. I enticed. I encouraged. I said, “Look, the water’s warm. Come on in.”

And they believed me. (Insert evil laugh here.)

Procrastination Queen has done it again.

Hey Mom, didn’t I say that Shelley would get her own blog? She did. Yep, she did. See. And she isn’t the only one. Lisa Beamer even got one! I’m shocked and her husband isn’t thrilled with how she spent her day. But then, mine wasn’t that impressed either (husband that is.).

My office has now warmed up to a balmy 63 degrees. I think I’m really going to have to break down and invent those QWERTY gloves for typing. Ice cold fingers just don’t type very fast.

Well Barb Huff be far behind on this race to blog? (Evil laugh echos off the water.)
