You have GOT to be kidding….

Would you like to buy some cookie dough? How about some frozen cheesecake? Pizza? What about $5 for a coupon? My children, you see, have gone back to school, er, work, and apparently they are salespeople.

Of course, they are my children, so they aren’t very good salespeople. Well, except for the youngest, who has some weird drive to actually earn those cheap toys they offer as “prizes.” Normally, one of my children may sell 3 or 4 items: more than 5 would be a huge deal.

The youngest, however, finds motivation somewhere, and he sold 20 items. He had to turn in the order forms yesterday, and I was shocked to realize he sold pretty close to $500 worth of stuff to our family, friends and neighbors. He even sold something to his sister.

The one thing I wanted to buy, however, my children decided on their own not to sell. The item? Bear Claw Trash Bags. They are these thick garbage bags that I like to use for everything but garbage. They work especially well for camping items. But I didn’t find out about that fundraiser until it was completely over.

And I thought I was finally done with all of the fundraising. But yesterday, one of the children brought home another fundraiser. This one has something to do with Macy’s. Yes, the store. She had coupons that could be used on a certain day either in person or online and the person using the coupons would get a discount, and the organization would also earn money. I thought it was a good idea — a no cost fundraiser that everyone benefits from except the coupons? They cost $5.

And this has been just the first month of school. Sigh.

In the good news department, enough people signed up to make the trip to Washington D.C. a go. The sign up list started last spring, and Maxine and I were one of the first people to say, “Yes! We want to go!” And so, we will be going. The trip is in February. I am chaperoning.

Right now, I am excited about going to Washington D.C. I think it is a trip that both Maxine and I will always remember. She is in seventh grade, so it is a great age to go.

The trip involves a very long ride on a charter bus. The ride is so long that we will not be stopping the first night. The plan is to sleep on the bus. The good news is that the entire groups is about 50 people, so it is a small group. Surely some of us will get some sleep, right?

Washington D.C is great, they have a tour where you can use segway’s and tour the city. There is so much to do there. It’s easy to get around the city with all the “Round a Bouts’.

    Hope you have some fun.
