School Bus Racing

busrace…the perfect way to celebrate Back-to-School!

Edited to add photo and comment: It was figure-8 school bus racing, and in the picture you can see how the figure 8 starts to come into play. By the end of the night, one of these buses ended up with its wheels in the air. It was a fun night!

In Michigan, we have this law that prevents public schools from starting until AFTER Labor Day. This is to help all of the places in Michigan that rely on tourist dollars.

It means that this year, the children have not yet started school, and my children will not start school until next Wednesday, Sept. 9.

I am SO ready for summer to be over and for my children to once again have productive ways to spend their days rather than calling me at work. And that only happened for two days last week, but I am still OVER it.

Anyway, today, we have plans for the perfect back-to-school activity — school bus racing.

The last school bus race I went to, one of the buses tipped over as it went around a curb and took out a light pole and a large section of fencing.

Why, YES, I have been to more than one of these events.

In addition to school bus racing, there will be munster trucks. I know that word is spelled monster and not munster, but I apparently pronounce it like munster instead of mONster. I blame The Munsters.

The munster truck is supposed to crush stuff. It should be good.

And hubby may have the chance to actually be a driver of one of the racing buses. I promise to post pictures.

Last night, we went to the races. It was a great night for going. The races were good. It was warm. It was warm (this is worth repeating). Both of the oldest girls worked, and they made over $50 each selling popcorn and programs. And I think the youngest two cost their dad and I $50 in food and must-have light-up accessories. The bleachers were pretty packed, and I spent a good part of the races holding onto a very cute little girl that did not belong to me. She was the neighbor’s, but I had a free lap. And more importantly, to her, I had access to pop. Unfortunately to her uncle, she did not have a good grip on a can of pop at one point, and he ended up wearing it.

So. School bus racing. Who knew?
