The last $100

My education is worth more than I’m spending obtaining it, I’m sure. But as of yesterday, my days of spending any more money on grad school are officially done and over. I wrote my last check to CMU. I thought about making Giggy take a picture of it, but then I decided it would be too much. (Giggy is a fellow grad student and my great friend.)

Yesterday I forked over $20 to Staples to print two copies of my thesis on special paper with a laser printer. Then I went to the CMU print shop with my thesis and the two copies and wrote a check to printing services for $100 to have the two copies of my thesis bound.  I will not get either one of those copies. One goes to the department and the other goes to the CMU library. I do, however, have an extra original signature page, so if I want to get it printed later, I can. I’m still undecided.

And with that check, I am done paying CMU. Even more importantly, I am done chasing here and there getting proper signatures on various forms. After the very nice woman at the print shop signed my final form, I returned the form to the grad office, and that makes my graduation audit free and clear. I will definitely be receiving a diploma in August, which is just three months later than I originally expected.

I also want to give my friend Giggy a big congratulations! She was hired full-time at a four-year university. She’ll be working with developmental readers and writers starting in August.
