When I was a kid, my parents had a garage sale just about every weekend. My job would be to set up the sale. We also sold things at auctions and flea markets. For fun, my dad liked to drive around and go to — you’ll never guess — garage sales.
Not long after I met Steve, my parents were setting up a few tables at an event at Hanson Hills. Steve was recruited to help me unpack and set up the tables. As we unpacked, Steve was making derogatory comments to me. He didn’t think this junk was going to sell, and it was all just a waste of time. At the end of the day, Steve learned how much money my parents had made selling that junk, and he was singing a different tune.
Despite my training, I do not like to have garage sales. I prefer to give my junk, er stuff, away. I donate often.
But I am seriously considering having a garage sale this weekend. I have a lot of big items I want to get rid of, and I don’t want to just throw the money away. I have until noon to decide if I’m going to actually do it. Noon is when the deadline for classifieds ends.
I should just do it, right? If anything, it may end up confirming my idea that I should just give stuff away from now on.
How’s this for ad copy: Bring money. Buy my junk.
Yeah, I’ll keep working on it. Thanks for playing.
