I knew her when…

My friend, Teri, or as my family knows her, Teri from Oregon, has some big news. :)

She sold her first fiction book, Read my Lips, to Simon and Schuster’s YA line (YA means young adult for those who don’t know)!

Teri was my very first online writing friend way back in 1999. I remember she had just returned from a camping trip with her family and was looking for a writing partner. We were both supposed to write and critique pages for each other, but Teri writes FAST. And soon, I fell so far behind that I just cried uncle.

My favorite thing about Teri’s writing: her dialogue. It rocks.

(Reminder to extended family, this is the woman I went to Ohio to see, remember?)

So, three big cheers for Teri! :)

I am so pleased and proud of her! Go tell her congrats at her blog, http://tjbrown.blogspot.com/

Campy Campers

The Sherwood family went camping last week. It was nice. To prove it, let me show you my view from inside my camper (it was even better outside, but inside was nice too).

The weekend was a chance to try something new. For instance, Steve tried some new reading material…

Autumn accepted a $5 bet. All she had to do was ride her bicycle into the lake. She tried. And tried. And tried. And Amanda even tried to offer a little assistance, but Autumn kept chickening out. The girl tried over 10 times though. Here’s a photo of Amanda trying to help Autumn into the lake. Notice the grip Autumn has on the pole.

But then Grandma Sherwood decided to make the pot a bit richer and offered another $5. Autumn again attempted and chickened out, but she started to get serious. She took off her sweatshirt, shoes and socks. She even dunked her bike, but her dad said that didn’t count.

All of this made Autumn’s bike wet. This led to Autumn fulfilling her bet even though she really didn’t intend to.

And in she went. Best of all, I captured it on film.

It would have been better if I’d had a video camera. :)

Afterwards:

Autumn: Where’s my $10?

Steve to Autumn: I didn’t think you’d really do it.

Autumn: Neither did I. I couldn’t stop.

Steve: You shouldn’t do whatever anyone suggests.

Autumn: It was your idea.

Steve: Yeah, but I didn’t think you’d really do it. And then your grandma added more money.

And Autumn very happily collected her winnings.
