It’s summertime! I am not in school and I can relax and enjoy myself and do absolutely nothing.
(This is where I take a big old whif of the coffee.)
So it’s only four days until my next semester starts, but I plan to do nothing productive those four days. Well, except for the two days of that when I have to work. Yeah, so I have the weekend. But it’s the weekend without homework!
I was a bit misleading in my last cryptic post. It was final exam week, but I didn’t actually have a final exam. I had a final project and on Thursday I had to present my project to the class. We had the option of writing an original Young Adult novel. It didn’t even have to be finished. Did I take that option? No. I can’t write fiction. OK, maybe that’s not completely true. The truth would be that I write bad fiction.
But Giggy and Bud, my fellow grad friends, both wrote original YA and it was GOOD. Actually, I was very impressed with everyone who wrote YA. So many of them just seemed to capture the voice. One girl had two characters telling the story, and when she read it to us I could tell the difference in the characters. I think that’s amazing.
Thanks to the class that I just finished, I have a huge list of YA books that I want to read. Every class period, we’d tell the class about the books we were reading, and there’s a lot of books I didn’t get to. Several classmates on Thursday said they’d spent a good chunk of money on books recently and the class is over, but they were intrigued. Giggy did that too, and she bought all of Todd Strasser’s books (spelling may be wrong). I’m going to have to borrow them. He wrote Give a boy a gun.
Although I didn’t write fiction, I did do something I’ve never done before — I created a Power Point presentation. Later in the class, one of my fellow students mentioned her son (age 12) had done a power point presentation. Just pop that balloon. But seriously, I thought it was fun to do, and I’m glad I know how to do it now.
I think my family is going to go camping soon. Want to envy me? We’ll be camping at a rustic campground. Now my idea of a rustic campground is no wifi, but this one is really ancient. There’s not even electric hook-ups. Luckily it’s near our home, so I will definitely be spending time there. There being home. I can’t do grad class homework from an ancient campground. Oh, did I mention we will be in a tent? Actually, I enjoy camping there, and I even enjoy the tent (the air mattress really helps with that).
Now, I must go do nothing. Thanks for playing.
