Thunderstorms

Last night was the first thunderstorm of the season. And this morning my right ankle aches horribly. I couldn’t even stand on it to put my pants on. I broke my right ankle pretty badly several years ago. It involved a 4-day hospital stay and screws. I’ve had three surgeries since then. I so hate my ankle. But maybe it didn’t have anything to do with the weather. It might be that I was chasing Amanda yesterday in an effort to give her a whitewash after she threw a snowball at me. I came oh-so-close to catching her too.

Alas, I never was a runner even before I broke my ankle. But I married a fast guy, and he caught Amanda for me, and she got her whitewash, the little brat. ;) And as I was doing that, Maxine jumped on my back and threw some more snow on me.

AGK is getting old!

I just wanted to point everyone to AGK’s blog, with the countdown. In just 87 days she’ll be 30.

Children, Bird remain alive

I know that should be a given, BUT this is SPRING BREAK WEEK and the children are home and bugging one another. Every 2.3 seconds it seems one of them is at my side reporting that the other one has just hit, kicked, pushed or otherwise maimed them. Really, it’s exhausting.

Because 2.8 seconds after that, the original hitter will come to me in tears that the hitee says she is mean. School is back in session on Monday. Let’s hope we all survive and try not to think of that other vacation lurking, S-u-m-m-e-r.

The bird, Ernie, is also alive. However I have had a hard time keeping his cage covered at night. The other day I covered his cage and less than 5 minutes later he was uncovered. I suspect Mittens, my cat,  is pulling the cover off the cage.

And totally having nothing to do with anything, which could be the title of this whole blog…

I recently ranted about the commercial that just drives me nuts. Topping my list recently is the Burger King commercial featuring the singing cowboy of Hootie and the Blowfish fame. Just drives me insane. So much so that I now have to pretend it doesn’t bother me because hubby likes to torture me (downside of Tivo and the ability to rewind live TV).

But every yin needs a yang, so I thought I’d share the commercial that I really like lately. It’s the one of the mom sitting on the couch trying to talk, and her family chaos is going on behind her and she finally yells, "I’m trying to do a commercial here." It’s for Netflix. I can oh-so relate.

Well I’m off to work. Thanks for playing.

The Countdown

The Countdown to my 34th birthday has begun. I was first reminded of it when Kira turned 34, but I tried to ignore it. Yesterday, however, I couldn’t ignore it. My husband, Steve, turned 34. That means I’ll be turning 34 in about 5 months.

The kids are on spring break this week, so they had all day to plan something for their dad, and they did. They performed a song. They had it written down and everything. Very cute. And we’ll be saving the song for prosperity.

It was very cute. I wish I would have video-taped it.

So Easter was on Sunday, and Steve’s birthday was Tuesday. That means my house has an overabundance of chocolate and desserts. I have cheesecake (rasberry), BTS cake, and cherry pie. Not to mention the chocolate and jelly beans. Or the already eaten Texas sheet cake and pumpkin bars. Can we say diet?

Hubby took my vehicle in yesterday for an oil change, and when I got in yesterday afternoon, I found a pleasant surprise. My old CD/radio had been replaced. The new one plays the radio, CDs and tape cassettes! Which is awesome because now it’ll be a lot easier to listen to my audio tapes from my NYIP classes, as well as audio books from the libary. Which is exactly why my dh got me the new radio.

He got presents too. The DVD 3, a wireless controller for Playstation 2, a new duffle bag, and a bunch of little things.

It has been wonderful weather this week. In the 60s and 70s and the snow is melting away. I don’t even mind the mud. We’re supposed to have a thunder storm tomorrow, and temps are expected to drop. But it looks like winter is finally over. Woohoo!

I cooked Easter dinner. My mom was supposed to stay overnight and help me, but she went visiting and ended up spending Saturday night in Grayling. She showed up before 8 a.m. though, and did help a lot. I really enjoyed Saturday and Sunday with my mom preparing the Easter meal.

But I have a confession. Mom doesn’t even know this.

At 6:30 a.m., after the kids had checked out their baskets and found all of the eggs, I called mom and found out what to do with the ham. I removed it from the plastic and popped it into the oven. When Mom arrived, she added brown sugar and pineapple slices. Fast forward to dinner time, with my house full of people. I asked my hubby Steve to slice the ham for me.

He commented about how tough the skin was. And that’s when he discovered that I’d left on the plastic-y stuff that is red in color and wraps meat. Apparently I should have removed that too. Whoops. We removed it and I begged him not to tell anyone. The ham was still good. The brown sugar never soaked in, and I noticed everyone peeled the edge off the ham they were eating, but other than that, you couldn’t tell.

So why am I revealing this to everyone after I made hubby promise not to tell? I think it’s funny. And his family already has a huge supply of stories about my cooking hazards. I didn’t need to add another one to their treasure trove. So just don’t tell my in-laws.

Easter’s coming

Yesterday I went to work worrying about everything I had to do in two-days that is work-related. About halfway into my afternoon, I got a phone call from my niece. She wanted to clarify that my invitation to my mother for Easter dinner really did extend to her and her three kids.

I invited my mom to Easter dinner? When?

OK, technically, I made plans to have my mom stay at my house on Saturday night so she would be here on Sunday (and oh my gosh Easter is SUNDAY and I haven’t bought anything). But I hadn’t thought of cooking Dinner, with a capital D.

Normally our family has Easter doings with hubby’s side of the family, but this year no one had made any plans. Partly because of the crappy weather that left snow AND mud all over all of our yards.

Easter Dinner. I could do that. Especially since my mom will be here to cook. ;)

So I called my MIL and double-checked to make sure hubby hadn’t accepted plans for Sunday and didn’t remember them. And I invited her and FIL to my house too. She’s bringing salad.

My niece is making green bean casserole. I’m supposed to make up the shopping list. We’re shopping on Saturday. We also need to fill enough of those plastic eggs with trinkets to make 7 children happy. We all know what I’ll be doing Saturday.

And so yesterday started with me worried about work, and ended with me hosting a dinner for a baker’s dozen. When hubby arrived home, I let him know he’d be hosting too. Aren’t I sweet? He suggests I dust. Claims he can’t do it because of allergies. I’m seriously thinking I should hire a maid to do all of the deep Spring cleaning. Not that it will happen before Sunday, but you know.

I am also frustrated beyond belief with my work’s ISP. I designed a Web site for work and have been pulling hair out trying to get the ISP to do whatever it is on their end they need to do to make the site work. They keep thinking I’m using FrontPage, even though I’ve told them repeatedly that I’m not. When I first connected with a FTP program, I couldn’t even transfer files because of an error on their end. Now I can transfer the files, but they still aren’t showing up. Argh!

And I just love how quickly they get back to me. We’ll e-mail ya. No e-mail. We’ll call you back. No call back. I e-mail them. No reply. I have to repeatedly call and bug them. And say, once again, no, I’m not using Front Page. Frustrating. And every new person I talk to I have to convince that yes, I do know what I’m talking about so we can get past the questions like "did you type in the correct user name and password?"

Eventually, it’ll work. I hope. But it was a nice reminder why I no longer have this company for my personal ISP.

Don’t hate me because…

…I was a cheerleader. And a darn good cheerleader I was too. Every year from sixth grade through senior year. My high school cheerleading coach was fantastic! I had lots of fun. Once a few years ago I coached a freshman cheerleading team. Such drama! I happily gave that up after just one season. It didn’t help that it was the year I broke my foot.

I was also a band geek, again every year from sixth grade through senior year. Such a big band geek was I the Drum Major of the marching band for two years. Although I never did go to band camp, well, unless you count Drum Major camp.

Looking at my blog yesterday, my oldest daughter saw the photo of me from 1987 and said, "Mom, that’s not you!" And when I said yes, it was, the girl I swore was my daughter replied, "But she’s good looking!"

And yes, the girl who was my daughter still lives. I’d take a picture to prove it, but she’s already gone off to school, the little bugger. She tried to claim she was joking. I just asked where she thought she got HER good looks from? The Easter Bunny?

Speaking of still living, Ernie the Bird remains alive. Although this morning when I entered the living room and removed the sheet from Ernie’s cage, I found Mittens (my cat) sitting under the sheet (on the floor) looking hungrily up at Ernie.

I am also still alive despite an unplanned return of my mother from Ohio. She plans to remain until the Monday after Easter, I believe. For those of you unwilling to follow the link, she recently stabbed me with a kitchen knife. (I bet you follow that link NOW.)

Ironically, a 19-year-old Lake City man died last weekend from two stab wounds in his chest from a kitchen knife. This isn’t a funny story, but it is weird enough that I wanted to mention it. Lake City, by the way, is just 10 miles west of where I live. He’d had a dispute with a neighbor. In the wee hours of the morning, he called 911 to report his neighbor had stabbed him. Except it now appears that the man stabbed himself twice while on the phone with 911 to get his neighbor in trouble. But the man hit the wrong spot, and bled out within 15 minutes. Apparently the change in the man’s voice on the very graphic 911 tape shows when he made the two stab wounds. He leaves behind a girlfriend who is 4 months pregnant. They don’t think he intended to kill himself.

And I can’t help but wonder…. wouldn’t that make a great episode for CSI?

Totally unrelated

The woman who stoled my mom’s purse was sentenced yesterday. Her husband will be sentenced later in April. My mom spoke briefly. The woman apologized several times to my mom.

The judge sentenced her to 4 months in the county jail, and $1585 in fines, fees, and reimbursing my mom $105 for other items that weren’t recovered (a spare key for her car, $61; refilling prescriptions, etc). If the woman pays her fines, she can get out of jail 29 days early, but she will spend 3 months in jail, and 18 months on probation. Her hubby will most likely just get 18 months probation.

The woman’s attorney had tried to get less than 60 days by offering the woman to make drug buys to nab drug dealers. The woman also had a possession of marijuana charge, and previous retail frauds. And AGK, you would be interested to note that the woman wore a scarf around her hip while being sentenced. And yeah, I don’t get that trend either.

The Amazing Race

I am just loving Survivor’s Rob and Amber being on The Amazing Race. Hilarious.  Absolutely loving the other teams reaction to them. Hehehe.

Public Service Announcement

Survivor’s on tonight, Wednesday, not tomorrow, Thursday. Don’t forget!

I’ve now done my good deed for the day. Thanks for playing.
